What we collect and why

Server logs

When you open a page, the server that hosts the site automatically records a log entry: your IP address, the date and time, the page requested, the response code, the amount of data sent, the address of the page that linked to us (if your browser sends it) and your browser and operating system as reported by your browser.

We use these logs only to deliver the site, keep it secure and fix technical problems. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in running a secure, working website (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR). The logs are deleted automatically after 14 days. We do not combine them with other data or use them to build profiles.

Cloudflare

The site is delivered through Cloudflare, a network that speeds up websites and protects them from attacks. To do this, Cloudflare processes your IP address and the technical details of your request. Cloudflare may set a strictly necessary security cookie to tell people apart from malicious bots; it is not used for advertising. Cloudflare, Inc. is based in the United States and participates in the EU-US Data Privacy Framework. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in a fast and secure site (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR). More information is in Cloudflare's privacy policy.

Emails you send us

If you email us, we use your email address and the content of your message to reply. Our email provider processes the messages on our behalf. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in answering you (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR). We delete correspondence within 12 months of the conversation ending, unless we need to keep it longer to deal with a legal claim. Please do not send us seed phrases, passwords, ID documents or bank details. We will never ask for them.

Storage in your browser

The beginner path on our homepages lets you tick off the steps you have finished. Your progress is saved in your own browser's local storage under the name bb-path-en, bb-path-es or bb-path-de. It never leaves your device and we cannot see it. You can delete it at any time by clearing your browser's site data. Our own code sets no cookies.

Fonts

The fonts on this site are stored on our own server. Your browser does not contact Google or any other font service when you visit.

Advertising

We plan to show Google ads once the site reaches around 5,000 visits a month (see how the site will make money). There are no ads on the site yet. Before the first ad appears we will update this policy to describe the data involved and, where the law requires it, ask for your consent through a consent banner before any advertising cookies are set.

What we do not do

We do not sell or rent personal data, we do not share it with data brokers, and we do not use it for automated decisions or profiling. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18; the site is written for adults.

Your rights

If you are in the European Union or the United Kingdom, you have the right to access your personal data, to have it corrected or deleted, to restrict its processing, to receive it in a portable format and to object to processing based on our legitimate interests (Articles 15 to 21 GDPR). To use any of these rights, email us at [email protected]. We will reply within one month.

You also have the right to complain to a data protection authority, for example the authority in the country where you live. In Spain that is the AEPD, in Germany the data protection authority of your federal state, and in the United Kingdom the ICO.

If you live in a US state with a consumer privacy law, note that we do not sell or share personal information for targeted advertising. You can ask us what we hold about you and ask us to delete it using the email address above.

Changes to this policy

We will update this policy when the way we handle data changes, for example before ads are switched on. The date at the top of the page shows the latest version.
